Walk With Bigz
Vision: Provide a platform for advocacy for better cancer treatment in Africa.
Mission: Create awareness, advocacy and support for cancer patients in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Goal: Mobilize resources to improve the lives of cancer patients through partnerships with existing cancer treatment centers as well as new ones.
African Walk for Cancer was co-founded by Bigz Aloysious Bigirwa, an immigrant from Uganda who experienced cancer firsthand. It’s purpose is to raise funds for the Uganda Cancer Society, a consortium of 38 local and international organizations, including the American Cancer Society. UCS is developing a national cancer control plan, implementing treatment and prevention programs and creating a cancer registry to track progress. AWC is also developing partnerships with similar organizations in other countries. Our dream is that one day there will be world-class hospitals for non-communicable diseases like cancer, diabetes and heart disease all across Sub-Saharan Africa.
