Thank you for visiting our fundraising page!

As you probably know, my 7 year old daughter, Avery, has Type 1 Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), a rare genetic condition that makes her fragile bones break easily.

We are participating in the Canadian Osteogenesis Imperfecta Society (COIS) Walk-n-Wheel 2024, to support Canadian Families living with OI. Our family has committed to a 5km walk (and wheel) throughout our neighbourhood, to raise funds for COIS.

Avery has overcome so many obstacles  in her life.   Most children diagnosed with OI are diagnosed in womb or as small children.   Avery went through many years of broken bones and struggles.  Finally at age 4 we met an amazing ER doctor who set us up with CHEO.  But, let me tell you, this journey was not an easy one.   When you bring a small child to the hospital with major fractures from standing, no one’s first thought is rare disease.   Our family went through a very lonely journey navigating broken bones and an undiagnosed rare disease.  Our goal is to continue to advocate for families  living  with OI to ensure no one is left alone.

Anyone who know Avery knows her love for science and understanding every little

detail.  Avery is determined to become an orthopaedic surgeon at CHEO and support kids just like her who have very big fears about life.

Avery is a courageous 7 year old who does not let anything stop her in life.   From infusions every 3 months and multiple broken bones to participating in track in field you will always see Avery with a smile on her face.

We are thankful that we have incredible resources available to us, through COIS and the OIF. We think of all the OI families that have benefited from the work of these OI charities. Funds raised by our team will go directly to COIS to help fund Canadian initiatives and continuing the COIS foundation.

Thanks to generous donors like you, COIS will be able to continue take care of children like Avery and ensure  they are set up for success in their future.

Your donation will help the COIS fulfil their mission of building awareness, education and support to families with OI in Canada. You will be issued a Canadian charitable donation tax receipt from COIS.

COIS is a registered Canadian charity. All donations over $20 will receive a charitable donation tax receipt
