Goal

We are the Kamal Canucks!

Our 11 year old daughter, Sophia, has Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), a rare genetic collagen disorder, that make her fragile bones break easily. Often spontaneously, without trauma.

We are participating in the Canadian Osteogenesis Imperfecta Society (COIS) Walk-n-Wheel 2024 this July, to raise funds for COIS. These funds go towards supporting Canadian families, living with OI. COIS is a registered Canadian charity, and a proud partner of The OIF (US).

Sophia is going into grade 6 in the fall. She enjoys participating in school musical theatre, pottery class, and of course, artistic swimming. Sophia travelled to the Ontario Winter Games in Thunder Bay this winter. Last winter games, she just missed the podium. This winter games, she won gold in all 3 routines! A huge accomplishment! Sophia has an opportunity this summer to compete on the first adapted, artistic swimming provincial team. Team Ontario! They will be competing in Quebec this summer. She has had a challenging few months with many fractures, extended hospital stays, and painful setbacks, but she will hopefully be able to get back to her happy place soon, the pool!

Funds raised by our team will go directly to COIS to help fund Canadian initiatives. Here is what we have been able to accomplish since our last Walk N Wheel;

  • This spring, COIS co-hosted a regional OI conference in Montreal, alongside the OIF and Montreal Shriners. Over 100 patients and families joined us for a day of information, support, and networking.

  • Our OI-Can Family Camp will run for a third year this summer. Our fundraising helps support this summer camp, by offering financial assistance to qualifying families. We plan on expanding our camp partnership to Eastern and Western Canada in the near future.

  • We proudly launched the Dr Francis Glorieux Medical Research Fellowship. Our recent charity golf classic raised enough funds to support the first 2 years of this important initiative.

  • We are providing sponsorship to qualifying individuals to travel to the OIF National Conference this summer, in Omaha, Nebraska.

We have been overwhelmed with everyone's generosity in past Walk N Wheels, and the time has come for us to ask you if you would be willing to donate to this great cause once again.

Your donation will help the COIS fulfil their mission of building awareness, education and support to families with OI in Canada. You will be issued a Canadian charitable donation tax receipt from COIS.

If you prefer to mail in your donation: Make all cheques payable to the Canadian OI Society.  Please mail your cheque directly to the Canadian OI Society at:
