Goal
We are the Kamal Canucks!
Our 13-year-old daughter, Sophia, has Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), a rare genetic collagen disorder that causes her fragile bones to break easily- often spontaneously, without any trauma.
This July, we are participating in the Canadian Osteogenesis Imperfecta Society (COIS) Walk-N-Wheel 2026 to raise funds for COIS. These funds go directly toward supporting Canadian families living with OI. COIS is a volunteer run, registered Canadian charity, and a proud partner of the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation (OIF) in the US.
Sophia is going into grade 8 this fall. She has had a challenging couple of years medically, having suffered dozens of fractures and chronic nerve pain. Yet, she constantly showcases her grit and determination, often competing in her sport, artistic swimming, with acute fractures and casts. She also enjoys musical theater, cake decorating, and art. Furthermore, she is developing her entrepreneurial skills and has started her own sticker, clothing, and crocheting business where she sells her creations.
Funds raised by our team will go directly to COIS to help fund Canadian initiatives. One of the main initiatives our Walk-N-Wheel campaign funds is our OI-Can Family Camp Weekend. Funds go toward securing the camp, subsidizing fees for all families, and offering additional financial assistance to low-income families. This will be our 5th year hosting the camp. If you ever attended summer camp as a child, you know that the friendships built there can last a lifetime. In the OI community, many children are too fragile to attend a typical overnight camp program without their caregivers present, which is why our family camp weekend is so vital to so many families.
Another initiative COIS proudly supports is sponsoring qualifying families to attend the OIF National Conference. This weekend conference offers a plethora of informative medical sessions and talks. Attending is truly invaluable to a family navigating an OI diagnosis.
We have been overwhelmed by everyone's generosity in past Walk-N-Wheels, and the time has come for us to ask if you would be willing to donate to this great cause once again. Your donation will help the COIS fulfill its mission of building awareness, providing education, and offering support to families with OI in Canada. You will be issued a Canadian charitable donation tax receipt for donations over $20.
If you prefer to mail in your donation, please make all cheques payable to the Canadian OI Society and mail them directly to:
