Goal

Friends & Family,

Gun safety has always been an important issue for me, and now as a mom and relative newcomer to Tennessee, gun safety has become my top issue.  The Covenant shooting hit way too close to home, and it revealed how vulnerable all of us are to senseless gun violence.

I felt compelled to get involved and try to do my part.  I'm volunteering with a new organization, Voices for a Safer Tennessee, a nonprofit (501c4), nonpartisan statewide volunteer-led coalition dedicated to prioritizing firearm safety and advocating for common-sense laws to make communities across Tennessee safer for all of us. This issue is not partisan, and we are expressly working across party lines to make real progress.  Our campaign is trying to mobilize support in all 95 counties in the state, and I'm hoping you all can contribute any amount to show your support for reform.  We do not have to accept the status quo.

Supporting Voices for a Safer Tennessee will enable:

  • Collaboration with state policymakers to prioritize firearm safety and responsible firearm ownership through bipartisan legislation.
  • Mobilizing grassroots supporters statewide with training and tool kits.
  • Educating the public about firearms safety and our policy priorities.
  • Enhancing our organizational infrastructure and efficacy.

This moment, following the Covenant shooting and the spotlight it has cast on Tennessee's gun laws, is the time to advocate for common-sense reform.  We know our family and friends share our concerns and passion for creating safer communities. We can look to progress from around the country to see what's possible here in Tennessee.  The changes needed to Tennessee's gun laws are modest but can be impactful.

Please help support this effort.  Contributions are not tax deductible, in part because much of the important work involves lobbying.  Lyle and I will match any friends and family contributions to help meet our $5K goal by June 30th.
