March 27, 2023, was the day I knew I couldn't stay silent on the issue of gun violence anymore. I remember like it was yesterday the moment my husband and I had to tell our 7-year-old son about the precious lives lost at The Covenant School just 2 miles from his own school. We watched his innocence disappear that day. We re-assured him he was safe, even though I didn't believe the words anymore as they came out of my mouth. Later that week, I helped found Voices for a Safer Tennessee -- a way to turn my anger and grief into action. 

Since that time, we've brought Tennesseans from all walks of life and all political affiliations together to find common ground on issues of gun safety. We coordinated a nearly 10,000 person human chain in support of finding solutions; we've met with state and federal policymakers; our work has been mentioned in media outlets across the state and around the world. Most importantly, I've met brave families who have lost loved ones due to gun violence and are suffering the unimaginable. It's their courage and the legacy of their loved ones that inspires our efforts at Voices for a Safer Tennessee.
