I feel extremely honored to be joining an amazing group of selfless individuals - including my husband and daughter - who are sacrificing their time, energy, and money to help Syrian refugees!  We are currently at the Turkey-Syria border with a team from International Aid Charity to witness and contribute to their on-the-ground work. 

We are delivering food boxes to families in need. There are over 10,000 refugee Syrian families registered with IAC to receive boxes (many others in need not registered) but we currently have funding for about 2500. The items in the box are listed below and can last a few weeks for a family. When we go to an area to distribute boxes to the registered individuals, there are many more people who show up hoping to get a box, but we don’t have enough.

We are also meeting with refugees personally to bear witness to their stories and their current conditions. We are trying to give a voice to the most neglected amongst them. For example, the women who are survivors of political imprisonment and torture and the orphaned children. As we learn what they have experienced, we can better advocate on their behalf. We will be bringing these stories home with us.

It has been over 11 years since the war in Syria began and millions of innocent people were displaced. Many of these people have been living in dire poverty along border towns, like the one we are visiting.
