Venezuela Needs Urgent Aid - Save Lives At Risk
On June 24, two massive earthquakes struck northern Venezuela just 39 seconds apart, collapsing buildings, trapping people beneath the rubble, and overwhelming hospitals across heavily populated areas. The 7.5-magnitude mainshock was the most powerful earthquake Venezuela has experienced in over a century.
Early reports point to deaths, hundreds of injuries, damaged homes, collapsed structures, and disrupted essential services, with search-and-rescue efforts still underway. In La Guaira, a major historic port city on the northern Caribbean coast, numerous apartment buildings have been leveled. Across the capital Caracas, families spent the night in the streets, too afraid to return to damaged homes.
Power and telecommunications have been disrupted across many of the hardest-hit areas, and a healthcare system already stretched to its limits is now facing a surge of trauma patients it was never equipped to absorb. Access to lifesaving healthcare will be critical for people injured by the earthquakes and for families whose essential services have been disrupted.

Venezuela's humanitarian crisis did not begin with this earthquake. Before the quakes struck, nearly 8 million people were already in need of humanitarian assistance, with widespread food insecurity and a collapsing healthcare system. This disaster has compounded a crisis that was already desperate.
