Support Afghan Women and Non-Binary Human Right Defenders
Since August 2021, UAF A&P has supported over a 1000 women and non-binary defenders in crises following the political takeover by the Taliban government. As a feminist rapid response fund, we raised and redistributed over $1.99mn to Afghanistan to support survival and relocation needs of women and non-binary human rights defenders who faced several threats and risks due to their work.
We supported them with money and networks required to evacuate them to safety, many were supported to flee Afghanistan. Those who could not, were resourced to move to safe houses within the country and secure the safety of themselves and their families. Most availed our grants for livelihood support, as they looked for evacuation or alternate ways of communing and resisting the Taliban.
