Dear friends,

Again in 2024, I am asking for your support of the Virginia non-profit He She Ze & We, which continues is critical work supporting transgender families and youth in Virgina.  I appreciate any donation you can make to support their vital work.

Our youngest son is transgender. He was assigned female at birth and transitioned male a few years ago. Though he transitioned in a supportive family and we live in liberal Arlington County, the current political climate have ensured it isn't easy for him or us.   Thankfully, our son is thriving and looks forward to heading off to college in the fall.

Unfortunately, Virginia is a key battlefield in the fight for equality.  The concerted and coordinated attacks on transgender families nationally have come to Virginia in a big way and only the narrowest of pro-equality majorities in our state house has spared us from hateful legislation and adoption by our Governor.  We've seen a rapid erosion of support and services for families and youth across Virginia, fueled by a Governor pushing policies and laws that discriminate against and directly impact my son and other transgender young people in Virginia. Strong support systems are vital to keep families together and youth safe.

Virginia families need organizations like He She Ze & We to provide critical and life-saving support to families across the state.

I support He She Ze & We because they provide direct services to families like mine and work directly at the local level to work toward transgender rights and acceptance across the state. Please make a donation in any amount if you feel moved to support transgender youth in Virginia.

There is an attack on transgender youth and their families right now in Virginia and all across the US. Your support is crucial so that we can continue to organically expand to bring our vital programming to more neighborhoods and communities. If we can grow our capacity by hiring additional staff, we can reach more families that need our education, support, and advocacy services.
 

YOUR DONATION IS CRUCIAL TO OUR WORK. In addition to helping us host this signature event, your contribution will go directly to support our programming:

• Provide training for our volunteer facilitators and organizers that provide support directly to the families we serve.
• Provide professional development training to schools so they know how to work with transgender and nonbinary students.
• Support Family Connections monthly social program for K-12 students and their families in Hampton Roads, Blue Ridge, New River Valley, Hill City, Northern Virginia, and Central Virginia regions.
• Buy books for our lending libraries that every In-person HSZ&W meeting is building to support their attendees.
• Increase our outreach efforts at community events across Virginia.
• Support transgender and nonbinary individuals as guest speakers, sharing their personal experiences with others.
