Re-Elect Aberdeen Mayor Travis Schaunaman
As mayor, I've been proud to represent the people of Aberdeen and to take part in five years of our community's successes. We've added families, homes, businesses. Our downtown has seen huge improvement through local investment. For Aberdeen, this has really been a unique story of growth and prosperity.
Aberdeen has been a wonderful place to start a business and raise my family. I’m thankful for the opportunities it has offered and I feel it’s my responsibility to give back to ensure Aberdeen remains a great place to live, work and raise a family.
I am an advocate for job creation and a strong supporter of quality community growth. I have worked hard to promote a welcoming business atmosphere that recruits skilled workers and retains promising young talent.
Successes as Mayor:
Reducing Unnecessary Regulation
I was able to spearhead efforts which made it possible to start a business in your home, eliminated the unworkable downtown sign ordinance and changed the remaining ordinance to allow for digital billboards. We reduced burdensome greenspace ordinance which has allowed small businesses to expand without backbreaking costs and industrial businesses to expand without giving up parking.
Most importantly, I fought hard against government overreach during the COVID scare. Our businesses were allowed to operate and we did not force our population mask. Aberdeen was the freest city in the freest state in the nation.
Improving Our Water
We recently signed an agreement with WEB Water and BDM in order to bring Missouri River water to Aberdeen and worked to successfully receive grant funding. In 2028-2030, we'll begin to receive 4 million gallons per day (this is roughly our daily average use) from the WEB system.
Expand Community Recreation
I led the community effort to purchase and convert the PC Dome and Strode Center into community use facilities. In the three months they've been open, thousands of individuals from our community have enjoyed indoor recreation during our long cold winter. We've also been able to attract a regional baseball tournament which will bring people to Aberdeen from five states!
Recruit Quality Jobs
We created a economic development position at the city to focus on strategically recruiting retail stores to the community to ensure Aberdeen remains a retail center for our surrounding area for years to come. We've continued to work with partners in the community and state to recruit job creating businesses to displace those that have left.
Aberdeen has a rich history of entrepreneurship and I was honored to be named the 2018 Entrepreneur of the Year. The city has also partially funded a matching grant for an innovation center to be launched at Northern State which provides resources and opportunities to area entrepreneurs looking to build jobs from the ground up.
How Can You Help:
Campaign efforts are underway and, as a professional marketer, I can accomplish much of what what’s needed for free or at a wholesale price. Printing, postage and ad placement will still cost a considerable amount to adequately reach voters. I’m investing in myself and am asking for your financial support as it will allow me to reach more people and run a more effective campaign.
Please vote to reelect Travis Schaunaman for Mayor on June 4th.
