Goal
Transilient is a traveling photo and interview-based project. We candidly document transgender and gender non-conforming people in their day-to-day lived realities using only their voices. The project attempts to humanize, educate and destroy the assumption that trans folks are solely defined by their physical experience and their oppression. To bring about understanding and tackle transphobia we aim to weave transgender lives into the overall human experience instead of merely focusing on the transition. Our objective is to create a platform that is accessible to all people, in and out of the trans community.
We have a skill sharing program in place that we want to continue and also are starting a mental health documentary series in partnership with the Lost Got Found project.
As an oppressed demographic we want to travel a few areas in the southeast, do Skype interviews nationwide, and give others a voice through a blog or podcast concerning mental health and transgender identity.
Suicide statistics are too high in our community as well as depression / anxiety.
We want to hear about people's experiences, personal lives, and self care practices. We hope to educate and inspire others to get involved with mental health care for transgender and non-binary people.
