We are #MoreThanTrans. We are Transilient.
Transilient is a traveling photo and interview-based project. We candidly document transgender and gender non-conforming people in their day-to-day lived realities using only their voices.
The project attempts to humanize, educate and destroy the assumption that trans folks are solely defined by their physical experience and their oppression. To bring about understanding and tackle transphobia we aim to weave transgender lives into the overall human experience instead of merely focusing on the transition.
Our objective is to create a platform that is accessible to all people, in and out of the trans community.
In 2016, the Transilient team drove over 10,000 miles around the U.S. interviewing trans folks from all walks of life.
In 2017, Transilient hit the road in a post Trump America. We focused on the states most impacted by anti-LGBT legislation in the deep south. The team interviewed 70 participants nationwide in a month and a half.
In 2018, we want to take three apprentice / assistant trans, non-binary or two spirit folks on tour with us to skillshare and help build up their resumes.
Help us get there!
