Trans formative Schools is a school of change that builds transformative power and joy. It is a school built for and with transgender, non-binary, neurodivergent, and BIPOC kids at the center. Where being yourself is supported, loved, protected, and encouraged.

Growing up, finding community and belonging as a gender expansive Black child was a struggle. Always feeling like somewhat of an outsider who often didn’t fit the mold (by choice and happenstance) or connect with those of my assigned gender made being one of the few Black children that much more isolating. Trans formative Schools is not only a school, I needed its a school that gender expansive youth deserve! To learn, one must feel safe (at the very least). Trans youth deserve to feel safe so they can thrive and soar as their most authentic selves. 

As an educator, I continue to see the lack of representation impact children’s lives daily. The impact of teachers not knowing how to support and maintain an inclusive space, children and adults misgendering others, and unpacking anti trans hate with children who are actively trying to make sense of nonsense. Gender expansive children deserve to be in a space that amplifies their joy, where they are seen, supported, and welcomed; they deserve a school with educators who reflect them. Gender expansive, neurodivergent, BIPOC youth deserve to live unapologetically and proudly!

Trans formative Schools is a school of change that builds trans power and joy. We are students, educators, families, organizers, and researchers co-constructing a global network of liberatory school houses. Together, we cultivate laboratories where intergenerational trans communities learn and create tools to read and write power.

We dream of a world without oppression where trans kids can just be kids who live, learn, thrive, love, and belong.
