Goal

You know us, and you know what we do.

  • Trail work parties? We crush them.
  • Clearing and maintaining your trails with a fully staffed professional crew? Check.
  • Getting you up-to-date info on the status of your trails?  Of course!

Like with a many things public lands these days, our trails are taking a hit.  When the USFS put a hiring freeze on seasonal workers last fall, many Ranger Districts were left wondering about how they would maintain their networks.  The Wood River Trails Coalition (WRTC) and the Ketchum Ranger District (KRD) of Sun Valley, Idaho were no different. Luckily, we sprang into action to ensure your trails would remain some of the best in the West.  We:

  • Worked closely with the KRD to hire their entire seasonal trail crew.  That's right, when we got news of the seasonal hiring freeze, we said "not on our watch" and brought those five positions in house.  The crew has been hired, is in the process of being onboarded. As you recreate on trail systems such as Adam’s Gulch, Fox Creek, Lake Creek, Baker Creek, Deer Creek, Corral Creek, Greenhorn and East Fork of the Big Wood, rest assured that the level of maintenance and professionalism will not falter in 2025. The WRTC and the KRD will continue to weather incoming storms from Washington DC to ensure your trails are well taken care of.
  • Are building new trails!  In partnership with the Bureau of Land Management Shoshone Field Office, we are gearing up to help construct a 6.5 mile trail in Lee's Gulch.  This is the first part of a series of new trails coming to the South Valley, so stay tuned for a whole lot more!
  • Are moving trail projects forward.  In addition to helping hire the Trail Crew, we are also working closely with the KRD to see what kinds of improvements our trail network needs, and seeing how we can partner to meet those needs.  We've got our eyes on Upper Greenhorn (past the Mahoney's Trail). We plan to reroute small sections of the trail out of the creek bed and into more sustainable locations, as well as reroute it out of a perennial avalanche path, all without changing the character of the trail.  We partner with the KRD to help find funding, hold contracts, and just generally make trail projects like this happen smoothly and quicky.

So let's do this!!
