Dan's 30th birthday fundraiser!

Dear family and friends. As I approach my 30th trip around the sun, I have been reflecting on what is truly important to me. 

I am so appreciative that anyone would want to give me a gift on my birthday, but the truth is that I really don't need anything. I am one of the very, very lucky ones on this planet. On the other hand, there are an incredible number of people suffering through life without even their basic needs being met.  

And so, for my birthday, I would love you to give me the gift of a few moments of your time to read about one of my favourite charities, Living Goods. 

If you were planning on buying me a present, I would genuinely prefer it if you made a donation instead (tax deductible!). 

Living Goods

In sub-Saharan Africa, literally millions of people die from treatable diseases every year. Read that again. 

The reason? There isn't enough access to basic healthcare, like nurses and medicines. 

It is a crazy statistic, and it is completely preventable. Imagine if one of those people were you, or someone you love.

Living Goods address this problem in a super effective way. They employ and train local people, the majority of whom are women, to provide reliable and affordable health care and essential medicines and products to the doorsteps of millions. The workers get sustainable employment, and the community gets essential healthcare.

The cost of the program is under $5 AUD per person helped, per year.

The program is evidence based and proven to reduce infant mortality by 33%. They have helped more than 6 million people already, and plan to reach 25 million people across 4 countries by 2021.

What impact will we have?

At a cost of $5 AUD per person, if we successfuly raise my target of $2,000, we will provide 400 people with access to essential healthcare for an entire year.

That translates directly into lives saved.

That's pretty awesome.
