September is Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month! 

Did you know that thyroid cancer is the most common type of endocrine cancer? Thyroid Cancer impacts women three times more than men. This September, we are hosting a Virtual 5K to raise awareness about thyroid cancer, help spread the word about early detection, and fundraise for cancer research. 

To participate in our campaign, we invite you to do the following: 

1. Register for the Virtual 5k and complete your 3.1 miles anytime during September! Once complete, share your completion times + photos with us via email (ThyroidVirtual5k@gmail.com) or instagram (@thyroidcancervirtual5k).
2. Check your neck this month and follow up with your doctor about any concerns!
3. Spread the word - share and mention the Virtual 5K Campaign and how to check your neck with friends and family! 

What's a Virtual 5K? 

A Virtual 5k is a race that can be completed where and whenever you'd like. The beauty of a virtual 5K is that you can adjust to complete it when it is most convenient for you! Although Friday September 20th, 2024 is our official race date, we invite you to join us for a virtual 5K at any time during the month of September. You can run, walk, or bike 3.1 miles by yourself or with others! All proceeds raised will be donated to the Thyroid Cancer Association for thyroid cancer research. 

How long is 5K? 

A 5k run is 3.1 miles, or 12.5 laps around a standard track. 

Why did we choose Thyroid Cancer Association? 

We chose to donate to this organization because the Thyroid Cancer Association's mission is to educate, communicate, and support those that are affected by thyroid cancer. We share the idea for a future free of thyroid cancer, and would like to contribute to bring awareness and funding towards this research. 

About the Organizers

We are a mother daughter team. This cause is personal to us, as last September our family was impacted by thyroid cancer. Our mother was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and underwent a hemi thyroidectomy. My sister and I were able to provide care for her as she recovered, and friends and family across the US showed support by wearing "Team Kathy" t-shirts, sending photos, and positive messages.
