Through the Lens 2026

In January of 2020, I was a busy mom of two boys and a full-time special education teacher. An office visit with my doctor changed everything. I got the news that I had cancer and that I needed to see an oncologist. I told my immediate family and got on the conveyor belt of tests. I found out that I had stage 4 diffuse large B-cell lymphoma and would need chemotherapy. I started chemo, and in March of 2020, the world shut down. I had to go through my treatments alone without my kids, husband, or family to be there with me. I distance-taught from my hospital bed, a doctor’s office, and even my own bed. I was thankful that I could think about something other than what was going on in my body. In June of 2020, I got the call I wanted. I was in remission. 

After that call, I learned about Ann’s Place. After researching, I learned about the support groups. I logged on, and everything changed. There were people like me who could understand what I was going through. Through these groups, I learned that I had more to give. In August of 2024, I will defend my dissertation and become an Ed.D. This whole experience and the support I got in those groups changed me for the better. I no longer think of my cancer experience as just a negative. I am pleased to be a part of “Through the Lens” this year with Ann’s Place.
