The Next Mile Project

The Next Mile Project (TNMP) is a civic education and leadership initiative rooted in East New York, Brooklyn, and designed to build long-term civic infrastructure across communities. TNMP identifies, trains, and supports emerging policy-shapers and community leaders by equipping middle school, high school, and post-secondary participants with practical tools to understand and engage local, state, and federal systems.

Through immersive policy education, simulations, and applied advocacy training, TNMP develops a tiered leadership pipeline that moves participants from civic understanding to civic action. The project strengthens policy literacy, leadership development, and community-based problem solving and builds a model that can expand across neighborhoods, cities, and broader public leadership ecosystems.
