Goal
When I think about life and its opportunities, I often think of puzzle pieces. Lots of scattered opportunities, different sizes, shapes, and colours, with some corner pieces that lead to nowhere. Figuring out how to place all these pieces together is an inexact science, and without some kind of reference image or guidance, it can feel impossible…
Along the same vein, navigating the intricate landscape of running a church, charity, or non-for-profit (NFP) comes with a wide range of options and barriers that need wisdom to sift through and piece together. It involves understanding legal requirements, aiming for financial longevity, and creating safety for those involved, all while ensuring that God’s vision, values, and good news are at the heart of what is being done.
The Board Internship steps into this space, aiming to equip the next generation of leaders with knowledge and skills to faithfully govern organisations. As generational shifts take place, The Board Internship looks to challenge Millennials and Gen Z as they consider what their role in future leadership entails.
I have personally taken part and benefited from the learning of this program. In 2023, I joined The Board Internship after struggling to find avenues to join, learn, and gain experience in board governance. Despite knowing this was a space I wanted to explore more, I found it incredibly hard to navigate barriers and find where my own little piece of impact could be placed. Enter The Board Internship! They provided the opening I needed and various opportunities for me to learn, such as conferences, shadowing a NFP Board of Directors, and seminars to learn a variety of financial, legal, and theological skills. Without their support, I wouldn’t have had these opportunities and challenges to equip me as a future leader.
Importantly, this was all provided without a financial barrier, meaning that all young adults, regardless of their financial situation, have an opportunity to learn, grow, and lead through The Board Internship. This kind of service and dismantlement of barriers is only made possible through generous donations and partnerships.
As such I want to reach out and ask you to consider contributing financially to this work. All donations go towards covering program costs, ensuring that interns, myself included, are able to access high quality training and mentorship without a cost barrier, ultimately making it accessible to anyone. By supporting in this way, you can be one piece of a larger puzzle that aims to raise the next generation of God-fearing leaders and create longevity for Christian leadership.
“Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counsellors there is safety” – Proverbs 11:14

P.S.
I’m actually not very good at puzzles and have only ever completed them with someone else. I think that says a lot about the important role of mentors and networking. With your contribution, this is made possible, so from myself, and on behalf of all of us at The Board Internship, thank you for being that missing piece!
