“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves… speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.” — Proverbs 31:8–9
This verse has always challenged me. I knew I had leadership gifts, but often felt ill-equipped to live this calling out. And yet, I couldn’t ignore the reality that too many voices that need to be heard go unnoticed.
I feel called to use my voice — and to help give others a voice — in spaces where important decisions are being made. I feel called to step into leadership that builds God’s Kingdom and serves communities with wisdom, fairness, and faith.
So with this call and the future in mind, I joined The Board Internship. It’s the perfect partner in this journey, giving me mentoring, training, and first-hand boardroom experience. It’s equipping me to grow into a leader who can contribute meaningfully and steward what God is doing in organisations that impact lives every day.
But I can’t do this alone. I’d love to invite you to partner with me on this journey. By supporting me, you are helping raise up the next generation of Christian leaders who will speak up for others, strengthen organisations, and advance Kingdom work.
Read below to see the incredible ways The Board Internship is equipping future leaders and why it’s such an important organisation to partner with.
Why The Board Internship?
The organisations, technologies, services and systems that we engage with each and every day are predominantly run by boards or their equivalents.
They determine the strategic direction and vision of the organisations that shape the way we live, work, play and worship.
In Christian organisations, boards can be one of the most important vehicles for God to fulfil his purposes, and board members, when they understand and embrace their position of influence with reverence, can do amazing kingdom-building work.
When we equip future board members with the wisdom, tools and experience they need in the boardroom, we are positioning a generation of leaders to guide their organisations to fulfil God's purposes here on earth.
The Board Internship (TBI) places Christian leaders, between 22 and 35 years of age, in a year-long program that gives them hands-on experience on a board, mentorship, training and networking. Interns not only gain knowledge about ministry governance, but experience it in the real world of a well-functioning Christian boardroom.
Distinct from other governance training, TBI grounds interns in governance through a faith lens, so they are trained to seek God and his wisdom in everything from strategy to finance to risk management.
Who is The Board Internship?
TBI is a joint project of Korus Connect (www.korusconnect.org.au) and CMA (www.cma.net.au) – charities who share a passion for helping Christian organisations become as effective as they can be.
How is TBI funded?
Interns are not charged a fee to participate. This levels the playing field and ensures our focus is on choosing those with the right heart and attitude first and foremost, not those who can afford the program.
TBI meets intern travel and conference costs, and host organisations (their host boards) pay a fee to contribute towards these program costs, but there is still a gap between expenses and income.
Our interns participate in this peer-to-peer fundraising campaign, each with an individual goal to raise at least $1000 towards the remaining costs of their internship. In addition, CMA and Korus Connect seek to raise a matching amount ($1000 per intern, or $16,000 in 2025-6), to provide the funds needed for things beyond the core participation costs, like staffing, administration, and expanding the initiative.
As fundraising is also crucial to every ministry and not for profit, this project forms part of the skill development for the interns, teaching them the power of generosity, the importance of asking and allowing God to move in the hearts of generous givers.
Will you invest in future ministry boards?
We invite you to prayerfully consider partnering with us by either helping one of the individual interns in reaching their campaign goal, or by making a donation to the general program of The Board Internship.
By using the donation box on this page, you can select an amount - either one-off or recurring - and use the drop-down box to designate an individual intern, or the general program. Your tax-deductible gift, either in support of an individual intern, or as a general gift, is building the future of Christian boards, and for that, we say thank you!
