Why I joined the Board Internship

Many churches, Christian organisations, and not-for-profits do incredible work in pursuit of God’s Kingdom. Yet even the most effective and fruitful ministries are vulnerable to struggle and collapse without strong governance and oversight. Unfortunately this narrative is far too common.

This is why I joined the Board Internship (TBI) program.

I will openly admit that I knew very little about governance and the function of boards within an organisation when I joined the program (and I still have so much to learn!). Yet in my role as a pastor, I recognised the importance of being equipped with the knowledge, understanding and training required to engage with boards, and promote good governance, healthy organisations and effective and sustainable ministries.

What is The Board Internship?

TBI is a joint project of Korus Connect (www.korusconnect.org.au) and CMA (www.cma.net.au) designed to train and equip the next generation of Christian board members and promote healthy governance within Christian organisations for the future. Interns are placed on the board of a Christian organisation, assigned a mentor, and provided with regular training from professionals in the field, with opportunities to ask questions, reflect on their learnings and apply them within a real boardroom context. The program also includes two trips to the CMA conference at the beginning and end of their internship, which is a great opportunity for learning and networking together.

How is The Board Internship funded?

To ensure the program remains accessible for the most promising candidates, interns are not charged a fee to participate. Instead, the cost is covered collectively by TBI, host organisation fees, and an intern led fundraising campaign. Each intern is given an individual goal to raise at least $1000 towards the remaining costs of their internship.

Will you support me and invest in future ministry boards?

I would like to invite you to prayerfully consider supporting me and partnering with the TBI program by making a one-off tax-deductible gift to help me reach my goal of $1000 and build stronger and healthier Christian boards and organisations for the future. Thank you!

The Board Internship is not a standalone organisation, but is a partnership between CMA and Korus Connect (The Council for Christian Education in Schools). Korus Connect has confirmed that the activities of The Board Internship meet the criteria of their deductible gift recipient status, and therefore donations to ‘The Board Internship’ will actually be donations to Korus Connect (The Council for Christian Education in Schools), and a tax-deductible receipt will be issued within five days.
