The Tempest

Tottering Biped Theatre returns this summer to the grounds of Dundurn Castle to once again present Shakespeare at The Castle. This year they present a new spin on William Shakespeare’s final play "The Tempest." An epic tale that involves shipwrecks, magic, betrayal, music, colonialism, revenge and family. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and join the iconic characters of Prospero, Miranda, Ariel, Caliban, Ferdinand and more on the back lawn of the Castle for an unforgettable theatrical experience. Tickets are Pay-What-You-Can! 

Running Monday to Friday opening August 15^th and closing with a special additional Saturday September 2nd weather permitting at 7:00pm

The Tempest is believed to be Shakespeare’s last and most personal play, his farewell to the theatre when he left London. The power of his message is ageless and, even for a young production like ours, the themes of displacement, the desire for a better world and the strength of family resonate vividly. The love of power vanquished by the power of love inspire our own hopes for the future.

This year, we are offering a brand-new feature: 'Temp-Picnics' courtesy of our friends at the local Strathcona market – ‘MrktBox.’

 Each picnic is $40 per person, which includes your show ticket contribution and a picnic in biodegradable packaging:

Option A:

Local Cheese Selection, Dried Sausage from Seed to Sausage, Fresh Bread, MrktMade Hummus, Crudites featuring local produce, Fresh Niagara stone fruit, Almond Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie, and Wellington Hop Water

Option B:

A sandwich (Bohemian Chicken, or a Falafel wrap as the vegan option) a cookie, local fruit, and a Wellington Hop Water.

If interested, please send your option preference to artisticdirector@totteringbiped.ca with at least 36 hours’ notice, and the picnics will be at the Cockpit for you by 6pm. To confirm your order please make your ticket payment by selecting the "Picnic + Ticket" option on the donor page and note which evening you will be attending.
