Goal
As the COVID-19 Pandemic has forced many to postpone major events for the foreseeable future, a former United States Marine refuses to believe that any crisis can cancel a time to honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Brian Gallagher, a Gulf War Veteran will offer a three-hour “silent salute” while in his Dress Blues uniform to not only honor our fallen servicemembers, but to raise needed funds for a local VFW Post that has been forced to cease its entire operation due to the pandemic.
The Silent Salute will take place on Monday, May 25, 2020 at Fairfield VFW Post 7925 beginning at 7:00am and ending at 10:00am. Gallagher, who also served in Somalia, will stand at the base of a flag pole that will be at half-mast and hold his three-hour salute as a tribute to those who died in service to our country. “You can give respect to our fallen any day of the week, but Memorial Day is when we truly set aside that time to honor and reflect the sacrifices of those Marines, Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen who gave their lives for our great nation,” said Gallagher.
All funds raised will help assist VFW Post 7925 which has been closed since March due to the pandemic, losing thousands of dollars in hall rentals which is its primary source of income. Without additional funding, Post 7925 will be forced to shut down. It has been a cornerstone in the Fairfield community and its Veterans over the past 48 years.
