The Next Play
"THE NEXT PLAY" WILL BE THE FIRST FIELD HOCKEY MOVIE MADE IN THE USA!
The story explores themes of friendship, sisterhood, and the challenges faced by a closely-knit, yet competitive, group of athletes. This film will stand out because, beyond its classification as a sports movie, it examines the depths of the individual behind the athlete.
MEET THE TEAM BEHIND THE FILM
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
As a team of sisters who serve as both the writers and directors, we believe we are the ideal individuals to bring this film to life due to our firsthand experiences. We have witnessed our daughters deal with the complexities of team dynamics, providing us with valuable insights into the day-to-day interactions and hardships they face.
Through the use of compelling characters and a layered storyline, viewers will easily connect with the characters in our film. Lecturing and talking at kids can only get you so far. With the use of a visual media like film, we believe we will create a conversation at another level about mental health in sports.
We want to make a change!
We have teamed up with Morgan's Message. Morgan Rodgers was a sophomore lacrosse player at Duke University. After a dream-shattering knee injury she died by suicide. The organization was created by her mother and friends. Their mission is the following: "Morgan’s Message strives to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health within the student-athlete community and equalize the treatment of physical and mental health in athletics.
We aim to expand the dialogue on mental health by normalizing conversations, empowering those who suffer in silence, and supporting those who feel alone." We have been in close contact with Dona Rodgers of Morgan's Message who is Morgan's mother. Dona and other members of the organization have been reading the script and giving us critiques and valuable feedback.
