The League of Literary Citizens
You’re invited to join The League of Literary Citizens, a core group of Midwest Writers Workshop supporters who help build a bridge between writers and their literary dreams.
Since 1973, Midwest Writers Workshop has nurtured aspiring and accomplished writers to improve their craft and achieve their publishing goals in a welcoming community. We’ve made an impact on the lives of over 8,500 writers from all walks of life and are proud to showcase the successes of our alumni, some of whom have become award-winning authors, such as Lori Rader-Day, Annie Sullivan, and Larry Sweazy.
The majority of our history was focused on a single summer conference. In order to inspire and instruct writers year-round, we have expanded our programming to include Agent Fest Online, where writers from all over can learn about the publishing industry from literary agents and have the opportunity to pitch their books to multiple agents. We also feature Jane Friedman in an annual one-day online Masterclass, and in 2025 we are excited to introduce a Self-Publishing Conference! Our goal is to prepare writers for all aspects of the writing life–craft, publication paths, and marketing.
Another way we will continue to level the playing field is through personalized writing services, where we connect writers with our approachable, professional, and experienced faculty who offer feedback on manuscript samples. Herein lies the unique value of our organization: Regardless of a writer’s background, bank account, or geographic location, we provide the space and tools needed for them to grow in their craft and explore publishing possibilities within a tight-knit, inclusive, and supportive community.
In order to keep our services affordable to all writers, we need your help. A one-time or monthly donation will ensure that we can continue to offer quality programming, award scholarships to those who wouldn’t be able to attend an event otherwise, and provide a nurturing environment for writers of all backgrounds to tell their stories.
Below you will find the various levels of our League of Literary Citizens, individuals who provide a monthly donation to Midwest Writers. Even if you don’t join the League, any amount you are able to give will help us achieve our mission of helping writers.
