The Lady Program
The Podrska Foundation (www.podrskafoundation.org) is a grassroots organisation that advocates for human and non-human lives in Uganda. Headed by Dash Meizler, Podrska sponsors a range of outreach programs to educate and empower the most vulnerable in Uganda’s capital, Kampala. One such program is the Lady Program that seeks to improve the lives of women suffering from HIV/AIDS, domestic abuse and/or are destitute. As such women are unable to provide for themselves and their families, the Lady Program offers them not only childcare but also training and cruelty-free resources with which they can produce and sell handcrafted products such as bags, wallets and items of clothing such as dresses, tops, skirts, blouses and trousers.
The profits from the sales both provide an income for the women and cover the costs of the materials so that more women can benefit from the program. At the same time, all the women who participate in the program learn about the ethical reasons for producing environmentally friendly vegan products.
The Lady Program has already been successful in the past although limited resources have caused it to be placed on hold at the moment. To resume the program and thereby support more women through economic empowerment, we seek your funding to rent premises, pay for training and buy sewing machines and raw materials such as material, thread, needles and fastenings.
