The John Byfield Freedom Fund

John Byfield’s impact on the guide dog community is immeasurable. Through decades of dedication, mentorship, and leadership, he helped shape not only exceptional guide dogs, but also the people and programs behind them. His belief in the life-changing partnership between guide dogs and those they serve continues to inspire everything we do.

In honor of his legacy, the Byfield family has established The John Byfield Freedom Fund. A sponsorship of $2,000 allows for the naming of a puppy in his honor, and it is our hope that, through the many lives John touched, we will come together to far exceed that goal.

Our vision is to reach $30,000, becoming a full Freedom Sponsor and supporting the entire journey of one guide dog from birth through placement. The puppy sponsored through this fund will be named JB, carrying John’s legacy forward every step of the way.

At Freedom Guide Dogs, every dog is placed completely free of charge to individuals who are blind or visually impaired, including those we serve across the East Coast and blind veterans nationwide. This sponsorship will provide all medical care, training, and support through puppyhood, Formal Training and Hometown Training™, ultimately giving someone the gift of independence, confidence, and freedom.

Supporters will be able to follow JB’s journey through updates and photos, witnessing firsthand the impact of this collective effort.

This fund is more than a tribute. It is a continuation of John’s life’s work.
