Goal

When a brilliant African American Harvard doctoral student travels to Paris on a fellowship in 1938, the professional success that eluded him in the US begins to emerge until WWII erupts. The Final Letter: Reed Peggram's Harrowing Quest To Belong is a docudrama based on Peggram’s time in Europe as he and his Danish lover attempt to evade the Nazis. Crossing through three different countries in their attempt, they eventually wind up imprisoned in an Italian concentration camp. The Final Letter is a docudrama that explores racism, homophobia and antisemitism through the letters of a gay Black Harvard doctoral student imprisoned in an Italian concentration camp during WWII.

The filmmaker, Debra Farrar-Parkman, Peggram’s niece, interweaves his personal letters, historical research and dramatizations into an emotional and compelling narrative that will serve as a deeply intimate work and an accessible resource for public understanding.
