Goal
Eileen S. Hunt dedicated her life to service—first as a WWII Navy WAVE and then through an extraordinary 56-year civil service career including 45 years as the Director of Student Services at the Civil Engineer Corps Officers School (CECOS). Known affectionately as “Miss Eileen” and “The Commodore,” she was the heart and soul of CECOS, mentoring and guiding thousands of young officers who would go on to lead in the Seabees and the Navy Civil Engineer Corps.
To honor her remarkable legacy, CAPT Pete Saunders (Retired) and fellow former CECOS Commanding Officers have launched an initiative through the Navy Seabee Foundation to establish the Eileen S. Hunt Scholarship—a tribute to her unwavering commitment to excellence, mentorship, and service.

Ensigns or Flag officers, Eileen provided the same great services, and more importantly, advice with a great sense of humor and radiant smile. If the Commodore didn’t know, no one did. She “told it like it was” before that became a rare trait in the “sensitive” Navy. She covered for boot officers be they 0-1 or 0-8. Thanks Eileen for “mothering” new officers and helping “develop“ the perceptive among them to the most sought after “force multipliers” in the Navy

The Commodore was a welcoming face to myself and thousands of others who arrived at CECOS as green ensigns with what must have seemed like bewildered looks on our faces. She took us under her wing and shepherded us through the process, making sure we got off to a successful start with the CEC. What a great lady!

The Commodore was a terrific Ambassador for CECOS. Always at the front desk with a loving smile and hug. I had the honor of serving with her as a construction contracts instructor and the CO. World class individual who kept us moving in the right direction.

I was the CECOS Ombudsman back in 2002-2003 and worked with Eileen. What an amazing lady! I'll never forget her 3x5 index cards on every officer in the CEC who had come through CECOS. I challenge every CEC officer to contribute to this meaningful scholarship to honor Ms. Eileen!

I met The Commodore on the 2nd floor landing of the old (original) CECOS building on the first morning of my Basic Class in March, 1973 as she welcomed me and my classmates to CECOS. She was there for my Contracts Adminstration course as a LT and she was there for my LCDR and CDR refresher courses, and my Prosepctive CO course and when I finally returned to CECOS in June 2001,she was STILL there - doing what she always did - making a difference and ensuring that ALL CECOS students - not just the CEC folks, but the Senior Enlisted Seabees and the NAVFAC Civilian students got the support and information they needed to make their time a CECOS a success. She was a Great Lady in every sense of the word and I am proud to be able to donate towards an Endowed Seabee Scholarship in her name.
