Goal
The Silver Heel Foundation maintains the Chesapeake Bay log sailing canoe Silver Heel. Built in 1902 as a working craft, she now races each summer in the log canoe summer sailing series up and down the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
Our crew of volunteers are active participants in a living history that we preserve, promote, and share.
The Campaign for Silver Heel aims to raise $50,000 in 2025 to address both urgent needs and long-term stability to fulfill our mission.
Goals of the Campaign:
Restore Silver Heel’s safety and support tender, Yetsgo, to sustainable working condition.
* Without Yetsgo, there is no Silver Heel.
Build a stable foundation for Silver Heel’s preservation and programs.
* Conservation is the core of our mission. Resilience to unforeseen expenses is critical.
* Building on our outreach program is a major strategic priority.
Maintain a competitive racing program.
* Silver Heel is in need of new sails to keep ‘er heeled in summer log canoe racing series, an Eastern Shore tradition since the 1850s.
