The Barbara Billy Rockin' Out Memorial Scholarship

Our mother, Barbara, was an independent spirit and took inspiration, gratitude, and happiness from many simple things in life. She had an artistic soul and loved music, poetry, creative imagery, interior decoration, needlepoints, and puzzles. She was welcoming and generous to everyone she met. She enjoyed silly humor, expressive colors, harbor scenes, beautiful sunsets, green plants, crocheting and cooking and baking for everyone. Above all else, she loved her children. Her deep empathy, kindness, and bravery are a legacy that live on in them.

When her two sons, Joe and Matt, started taking lessons at School of Rock Montclair, it not only changed their lives, but hers as well. Her passion for music lived vicariously through us, and does to this day. Going to shows, and simply sitting in the SoR lobby, brought her so much joy, and everyone at the school became a second family. 

We could think of no better way to honor her memory than to start this scholarship fund in hopes of providing financial aid to young musicians and giving them an opportunity to attend SoR to take advantage of the life changing musical education that we got to experience and brought our mother so much happiness.
