Goal
Grace Klein Community is a place where we see Jesus, and cardboard, every day.
In September, three of our staff members were hosting a flower arranging class in Fairfield. On the same day, the Fairfield city schools had to postpone their homecoming due to threats. Our team sprang into action, delivering the excess flowers to the nearby schools. It was truly Jesus who had our team in Fairfield at just the right time, ready with flowers to share. How did we transport these little gifts of love? Cardboard boxes! While doing so, those boxes became damp, meaning they’ll soon find a new purpose in our bright yellow cardboard baler.
Cardboard is essential for the function of Grace Klein Community. We provide food for over 19,000 people a week in the greater Birmingham area through cardboard boxes. We use cardboard to carry flowers, gifts, clothing, and even to create thank-you signs. However, cardboard has its limits; it cannot maintain its integrity indefinitely.
When cardboard is no longer usable, we send it into our baler. The cardboard is compressed into bales, tied with bale strapping, and placed in our donated cardboard dumpster. A dedicated volunteer then transports the full cardboard dumpster to the local recycling plant.
GKC is seeking to increase our cardboard recycling initiative, and we need your help! GKC currently uses $300 worth of bale strapping each month, equating to $3,600 a year. We expect that number to increase as we grow! We would love to partner with you in prayer and financially. Will you join us to raise funds for this bale strapping to promote a greener Birmingham and a healthier Earth?
Help GKC become more sustainable!
With gratitude,
