Goal
What Life is Like for Villagers
In the district of Tharparker, located southeast of Sindh, Pakistan, more than 90% of the population lives in rural villages without access to clean water. This region is also home to Pakistan’s largest minority population with over 50% of residents comprising of minority backgrounds.
The people of this regional district live below the poverty line and face obstacles in living their daily lives. With a lack of healthcare and concerns of ever- growing epidemics like diarrhea and measles increasing daily, the communities face a number of challenges when it comes to health and livelihood. Food and water shortages are of utmost importance and require our most immediate attention.
What’s cool about these wells?
In very dry climates, many wells don't stand the test of time because it is very hard to force water from underground when an environment already suffers from drought. Our wells are built as solar-powered water plants, sustainable and energy independent! The power pumps water from over 100 ft underground, doing the work so that the villager does not have to. At the gentle tug of a handle, water flows free and endlessly!
Longevity
Our on ground partner Idara Al Khair logs a geo location on every well and commits to a life time of support. The Idara team visits our wells annually, ensuring to audit each well for needed repairs. Whether it is a broken spout or water flow issues, these are addressed immediately.
Costs
We had set a goal in 2021 to establish 10 solar powered clean water wells. Today, we have built more than 40. Each well will cost $2400. See a breakdown of the costs per well below. Please donate the complete $2400 at one time for your well via this page and send us a note at ubawany@thaakat.org with your name, beneficiary name and any additional information you need us to be aware of.
