Goal

Mental health support should be accessible to all who need it. Especially in Japan, a lot of work is still needed to normalise getting help for mental health issues. As of today, many people living in Japan struggle with accessing mental health care due to stigmatisation, fear of being ostracised, shame, or pressure by work or family to 'just be normal'. But what makes it even more complicated, next to societal norms, is the fact that there is a lack of good resources for mental help.

I had the privilege to get appropriate access to mental health care between 2022-2024. I am also not afraid to say I went through therapy, although I know some people look down upon that. Perhaps it will even ruin my chances to get hired, because employers might think they rather not hire someone who was 'mentally ill'. I have peace with that, because my weakness ended up becoming my strength. My difficult but rewarding journey turned out to be the best thing I could have done for myself and the communities I am part of. I found the will to devote myself to the mental health field by helping others who can relate to the complexity of fighting your own mind every. single. day.

Under the umbrella of Expertisecentrum Transculturele Therapie, the mental health organisation I work for, I am fundraising for TELL Japan.

Recognizing the significance of promoting mental health in our communities and understanding that many of us encounter mental health challenges, TELL is holding its annual fundraising campaign: Move for Mental Health.

Join TELL’s Move for Mental Health Campaign May 24, 2025. The campaign includes the Tokyo Tower Climb. Participants climb up the Tokyo Tower to raise awareness for mental health
