Goal
Corben is participating in the RARE marathon and will be walking 26.2 miles to challenge himself to walk through his rare disease without letting his rare disease define his abilities! Over the past 6 years, Corben’s ability to use his left leg consistently throughout the day has diminished significantly since being diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome after a traumatic knee injury while he was serving in the United States Army. As a result, being able to complete the RARE 26.2 miles from October 12 - November 13 will be a huge boost to his confidence and overall health goals as he continues fighting for an active lifestyle, while also supporting rare disease!
The desire to participate in this marathon is not just to challenge himself to complete something difficult - he hopes to show his two daughters that any obstacle that is put in front of you can be overcame with a positive mindset and determination! While there are over 10,000 rare diseases, Corben’s rare disease mainly affects his ability to walk. So the challenge he is up against is a big feat, but with your help, support, and commitment to help him reach a goal will keep him striving to walk extra steps each day.
This fall, Team RARE is bringing the rare disease community together for a virtual marathon opportunity with one rule: Do It For You, Your Way, For Rare Disease.
The RARE marathon is built around connection, inclusion, and shared purpose. Corben’s fundraising goal of $1723 is a very meaningful number to him and his purpose - keeping him pushing forward through the hard times - 17 represents his oldest daughter and 23 represents his youngest daughter. Team RARE 26.2 brings all communities together to support individuals and families impacted by rare diseases.
26.2 miles can look different for everyone. There is no required pace and no single way to complete the distance. What matters is moving with a purpose, every mile represents the determination and forward movement of the rare disease community and raising awareness for the work still ahead.
For those who choose to support Corben’s fundraiser, every dollar raised supports the RARE Foundation’s work to advance policies, improve access, build robust evidence, and drive meaningful progress for people living with rare diseases.
Your time and willingness to support Corben’s fundraising effort is appreciated! YOU are part of Team RARE - a community that is coming together, moving together, and achieving what is possible together.
Thank you,
Corben Parker
