Goal

Run For Movement – A Training Room for Sarcoma Patients

Goal: NOK 500 000

For the fourth year running, Bardo Running Club laces up in memory of our dear friend Bernardo "Bardo" Eggesbø. This year we're running to establish a dedicated training room for sarcoma patients at the new Radiumhospitalet in Oslo.

Four years of running have shown us that movement creates community and now we want to bring that into the daily lives of those who need it the most.

The campaign kicks off with over 40 runners taking on the Madrid Half Marathon on March 22nd, followed by multiple relay teams at Holmenkollstafetten on May 9th.

Who Was Bernardo?

Bernardo meant the world to the people around him. With a warm personality and a passion for alpine, football and golf, he lived an active life until a knee injury led to a diagnosis that changed everything: osteosarcoma, an aggressive bone cancer that affects children and young people.

Bernardo fought for two years with remarkable strength and courage, and became an inspiration to many. He passed away in the summer of 2021, just 16 years old. In his final months, it was Bernardo's own vision to start a foundation dedicated to finding a cure for osteosarcoma. The Bardo Foundation became the reality of that vision.

Bardo Running Club carries a part of this legacy forward, step by step, race by race.

Why We Run

Osteosarcoma is one of the most common bone cancers among children and young people, yet the treatment protocol has not been significantly improved in over 40 years. Only 4% of cancer research funding is directed towards childhood cancers.

Since 2023, Bardo Running Club has kept Bernardo's memory alive through running and fundraising, from marathons around the world to ultra races in the Alps and mountain runs back home in Norway. Through a high number of training sessions and races, we've experienced first hand the power of movement: not just physically, but in the energy, connection and motivation it creates.

Where the Money Goes

All funds raised go directly to establishing a new training room for sarcoma patients at the new Radiumhospitalet. The room is being developed in partnership with the hospital, which is evaluating the specific needs and equipment that will provide the greatest value for patients.

Research shows that exercise during active cancer treatment reduces fatigue, anxiety and depression, while improving quality of life and physical function including for osteosarcoma patients specifically. The goal is to give sarcoma patients a space that breaks up the routine and builds confidence when it matters the most.

What we've Achieved Together

In 2023, we raised over 200 000 NOK to establish a youth room at the new Radiumhospitalet. Ungdomsrommet now provides a safe and social space for young cancer patients. The room also enables schooling at the hospital through an adjoining classroom.

In 2025, we raised a further 250 000 NOK for a research project at Oslo University Hospital, aiming to understand why current treatment works for some, but not all, osteosarcoma patients.

To date, over 650 donors have contributed more than 500 000 NOK. We've run in 9 countries across 3 continents and delivered two successful projects. Now we're ready for the next step.

Support the Cause

Be part of a lasting change. Contribute to a training room that gives young sarcoma patients confidence, community and movement in the midst of treatment.

Share this with someone who cares. Together we keep running for Bardo.
