Ukombozi Village Tailoring for Widows

The challenge The Ukombozi Group, made up mainly of teenage mothers and widows, runs a small tailoring business in rural Kagera. Demand for their services is growing, but without access to specialist equipment they must rent machines for embroidery, knitting and buttonholes, limiting production, reducing profits and restricting the number of people they can train.

 Our solution

This project will provide the specialist tailoring equipment the group needs to expand its business, increase production and develop new skills. With better tools, they will be able to take on more customers, reduce operating costs and offer training to more women and disadvantaged young people in their community.

The lasting impact

The new equipment will help the group build a stronger, more sustainable business, creating greater financial independence for its members while opening up opportunities for many more people. As the business grows, it will continue passing on valuable vocational skills that can provide livelihoods for years to come.

Every contribution will help equip the Ukombozi Group with the specialist tools they need to grow their business. A gift of £30 could provide fabric and sewing supplies, £75 could fund a manual sewing machine, and larger donations will help purchase the specialist embroidery, knitting and buttonhole machines the group needs to expand.
