Support ongoing grassroots action for a city free of white supremacy!
If you were one of the thousands of people who attended our marches, press conferences and community forums against white supremacist and Confederate monuments this year, you know that good things happen when Take ‘Em Down NOLA is on the scene. The removal of four prominent Confederate and white supremacist monuments in New Orleans this summer resulted from years of community organizing, change that local politicians would never have initiated or stuck behind without sustained pressure from the grassroots.
Our coalition is stronger than ever, and we have big plans for 2018 including:
- Lobbying for a city-wide ordinance that mandates the removal of all remaining Confederate and white supremacist monuments; as well as the renaming of streets, schools, parks and other public works that honor white supremacists.
- The Take ‘Em Down International Summit, which will draw community organizers from across the US, the Caribbean and the world to dismantle systems of economic, legal and social oppression.
- Ongoing historical research, collaborations with local artists and free all-ages educational programming about racist monuments and namesakes in New Orleans, as well as hidden and unmemorialized histories of slavery and resistance in our midst.
- Continued pressure to replace removed racist monuments and namesakes with public symbols that New Orleans can be proud of.
We know how to get a lot done on a tight budget that comes almost entirely from passing a hat at our meetings and direct actions, and we are so grateful to everyone who has given us a few of their hard-earned dollars. All donations go directly to supplies and expenses for our programs and direct actions. In order to realize our many plans for 2018, we need your help as we ‘pass the hat’ one final time this year. Please give what you can, and especially consider signing up for an automatic monthly donation for 2018. Even a small amount that we can count on every month means that our organizers spend less time fundraising and more time planning and fighting for a better New Orleans.
With love and solidarity from the people of Take ‘Em Down NOLA, we thank you for your generosity and continued support.
