Goal

In the days leading up to the death of Stalin, a mysterious phone call from the Kremlin launches a desperate search for a missing pianist...

Sonata for Broken Fingers is a new opera that explores the meaning of music in a terrifying world. Award-winning composer Joe Cutler and librettist Max Hoehn have created a dark absurdist thriller that receives its first performance this summer as part of Birmingham Contemporary Music Group's season. We're also heading into the studio at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire next week to record the opera for a future release by Birmingham Record Company.

Recording the opera is a fantastic opportunity to give the piece a real legacy and reach a wider audience.

Sian Edwards conducts a compelling cast of singers: Claire Booth, James Cleverton, Stephen Richardson, Lucy Schaufer and Christopher Lemmings.

The piano itself features as a key character in the drama, played by Xenia Pestova-Bennett "a powerhouse of contemporary keyboard repertoire" (Tempo).

Please support us in making this recording, and contribute to the continued vitality of contemporary music at this time. The album will be released on all streaming platforms and as a limited physical CD release early next year. Nine charitable trusts have supported us so far and we are looking for a final £3,000 to complete the project in the lead-up to the release next year.

Anyone donating £50 or more will receive a free signed copy of the CD once it's ready.

Thank you for supporting new music!
