Support the Faribault Diversity Coalition
We view diversity as an asset! Our work centers on trying to bridge cultures to foster understanding and community well-being. And while this work is neither easy nor quick, it is essential to create a more fair and equitable Faribault for all. We need your help to achieve greater impact.

The FDC was formed in 1995 to welcome Faribault’s newest residents and promote an inclusive community. For nearly 25 years, the FDC has worked towards creating a more positive attitude towards diversity and ensuring greater equity and inclusiveness for all community members, with a mission of “bridging cultures to foster understanding and community well-being.”
The original FDC closed its doors in 2010. At the same time, Somali refugees started settling in larger numbers in Faribault. In order to help these new refugees, the Somali Community Service Center (SCS) came into operation. The current FDC grew out of the SCS.
The FDC has grown considerably in recent years, transitioning from a board-run organization to a team of four employees. The organization has since updated the mission and vision to better reflect community needs and refreshed the identity system (including new logo and website) to better convey this renewed purpose. FDC programming has expanded in both depth and breadth while funding has diversified from solely grant-funded to include both earned income programs and community giving. In 2019, the FDC was selected as the Faribault Chamber of Commerce Nonprofit Partner of the Year in recognition of both the organization’s community impact and internal business growth. FDC senior staff have been selected as representatives to both the Faribault’s Futures program and the Blandin Community Leadership Program.
As the FDC approaches its 25th anniversary in 2020, the organization continues to innovate with new approaches to programming and has set forth a plan for aggressive growth and development over the next five years.
