We starting this donation campaign to reach out to individuals, collectives, and art communities interested in sound to introduce them to the project, and its aspirations, and create a safe environment that supports its continuity and cooperative development, not only through financial support to reach the production stage again, but also through continuous interaction and communication.
So far, we have faced a six-month production interruption which makes our work very difficult to progress. After receiving a grant from the "All Around Culture" program for the year 2021-2022, which supported the establishment and emergence of the production project for a whole year till March 2023, we have established a recording unit, created a dedicated website for the project, supported four workshops and sound events for a number of serious artists and researchers, we also held artistic residencies for nine sound artists and researchers, supported project staff for one year symbolically, including translators, text and audio editors, coordinator, website and social media technical staff, among others.
In the next cycle of the project, we aim to focus on experimental sound arts that enhance the principles of deep listening. We will welcome artists and researchers who create their own instruments and sound sculptures. These artists create their own musical tones and notes, either graphically or freely inspired by nature or everyday life. We also invite electronic sound experimenters and organizers of experimental sound performances. Of course, we also welcome artists whose work is based on archives of music or ancient and modern Arabic sound, including but not limited to rap, Rai, classical and pre-classical music, folk music, and more.
The new cycle will extend until the end of 2024 and will include reading groups, listening sessions, and film screenings on related topics.
Another important goal for us is to find ways to collaborate with communities and sound institutions interested in deconstructing listening policies, in Egypt and around the world. The expenses will be allocated as follows:
1-Support for artists selected for interviews through archiving their work or providing a fee for a virtual presentation or workshop.
2-Ensuring that artistic or research workshops are provided free of charge to the public.
3-Maintaining an open-source archive and supporting future and expanded productions in the field of sound and research.
5-Symbolic support for project staff, including translators, text and voice editors, coordinator, website and social media technical staff, and artistic assessors.
6-Expanding the audio library by purchasing important audio works and books related to sound and listening.

Sonic Spaces is a virtual platform that organizes and engages with sound-related artistic and research projects in Egypt and the Arab world.
The project aims to establish an inclusive space for archiving sonic art and research, catering to multidisciplinary artists and researchers who actively incorporate or critically explore sound in their work.
Operating as both an archival and developmental space, Sonic Spaces conducts in-depth interviews with applicants and provides a collaborative environment for conversations and partnerships to flourish. The platform also aims to build and promote an interactive sonic archive, while documenting and editing the works that require preservation, and making sound-related productions and workshops.
This project seeks to provide a shared space for individuals and groups interested in sound across Egypt and the world, fostering the development of new ideas and collaborations in the realm of sound.
In the first phase of the project, we explored the relationship between sound, the city, migration, and movement through impactful audio archives that influence the practices of artists and researchers. However, in this phase, we aim to delve deeper into the relationship between sound and ecology, highlighting experimental sound arts that enhance the principles of deep listening in multidisciplinary contemporary sound and visual performance practices. We will explore concepts of the environment surrounding us and our relationship as humans with non-human beings and entities. How do human intervention and colonization affect ecosystems? We will also examine how through our practices, we expand a sonic field that promotes sound and spatial justice and gives space and agency to voices from perspectives beyond spoken language and different modes of communication.
We will discuss artistic or research practices cumulatively, talking about the multiple outcomes of sound works within a critical and contemporary framework in the form of a reading program, film, listening, and experimenting sessions.

نبدأ حملة الدعم هذة لتغطية نفقات دورة جديدة لبرنامج مشروع مساحات صوتية البحثي والأرشيفي المتعلق بفنون ودراسات الصوت، من خلال صناعة أرشيف رقمي مفتوح المصدر للفن والبحث الصوتي المصري والعربي نود أن نتكلم عن الصوت ومن خلاله. فمن أهم أهداف هذة الحملة أن نضمن إستمرارية المشروع لعام آخر نوسع فيه التفكير في مجال الفن والبحث الصوتي متعدد التخصصات، وتفعيل عالم من الاستماع الحر.
هدفنا من حملة التبرعات هذة ه الوصول للمهتمين من الأفراد والمجتمعات الصوتية الفنية والبحثية للتعريف بالمشروع وطموحاته وخلق بيئة آمنه له تساعده علي الإستمرار والتطوور التعاوني ليس فقط من خلال الدعم المادي للوصول لمرحلة الانتاج ولكن أيضا للتطور من خلال التفاعل والتواصل المستمر.
نواجه حتي الآن سته أشهر من التوقف الإنتاجي، فمن بعد حصول المشروع علي منحة برنامج ثقافة داير ما يدور لعام ٢٠٢١-٢٢ والذي دعم نشأه وظهور المشروع الإنتاجي لمدة عام كامل، قمنا خلالها إنشاء وحدة للتسجيل، إنشاء موقع إلكتروني خاص بالمشروع، دعم أربعة ورش عمل وفاعليات صوتية لعدد من الفنانين ووالباحثين الجادين، إقامة فنية صوتية لتسعة فنانين وباحثيين صوتيين، دعم العاملين في المشروع لمدة عام بشكل رمزي من مترجمين، محررين نص وصوت، منسق/ة، تقني الموقع الإلكتروني والمنصات التواصل الإجتماعية، قيم/ة فنية.
في هذة الدورة نود التركيز علي الفنون الصوتية التجريبية التي تعزز مبادئ الإستماع العميق، فسوف نستقبل الفنانين والباحثين صانعي الآتهم ومنحوتاتهم الصوتية الخاصة، الفنانين الذين يصنعون درجاتهم ونوتاتهم الصوتية/ الموسيقية/ المستقاه من الطبيعة أو الحياه اليومية بشكل جرافيكي أو حر، مجربي الصوت الإلكتروني، ومنظمي العروض الصوتية التجريبية، وبالطبع الفنانين اللذين تقوم أعمالهم بناءا علي أرشيفات الموسيقي أو الصوت العربي القديم أو الحديث والتي منها بدون تحديد ”الراب، الراي، الموسيقي الكلاسيكية وماقبل الكلاسيكية، الموسيقي الشعبية….إلخ“.
سوف تمتد الدورة الجديدة لعام ٢٠٢٤، وسوف يتخللها مجموعات قراءة وجلسات إستماع وعروض أفلام في الموضوعات المتصلة.

نفقات الدورة الأساسية ستكون موجه للآتي:
١- دعم الفنانين المتقدمين للمقابلات من خلال أرشفة أعمالهم أو أجر عمل عرض إفتراضي أو أجر ورشة عمل.
٢- الحفاظ علي تقديم الورشات الفنية أو البحثية بشكل مجاني للجمهور.
٣- الحفاظ علي الأرشيف مفتوح المصدر ومجاني للجميع ودعم إنتاجاته القادمة والمتوسعة في الفن والبحث الصوتي.
٤- دعم وقت العاملين داخل المشروع بشكل رمزي من مترجمين، محررين نص وصوت، منسق/ة، تقني الموقع الإلكتروني والمنصات التواصل الإجتماعية، قيم/ة فنية.
٥- التوسع في المكتبة الصوتية من خلال شراء أعمال سماعية وكتب مهمة تدور حول الصوت والإستماع.
