Support Shifrah UK

Shifrah UK was founded by Jewish midwives, doulas and academics in response to rising antisemitism in healthcare and birth spaces. Since launching in 2024, our volunteer-led organisation has gone from strength to strength. And now we need your support.

Together, we have:

  • created online resources for non-Jewish clinicians
  • launched the UK’s first directory of Jewish and “safe” birth workers
  • delivered training to hundreds of student midwives
  • presented at major midwifery and maternity conferences

But there is still so much more to do.

Inspired by Shifrah and Puah - the courageous Hebrew midwives of the Exodus story - we are here to make real change. Our work is just beginning, as we strive to create safer, more informed and more compassionate birth spaces for Jewish women, babies and families across the UK.

Your support will help us to scale up our work and impact. Please donate today to help us to:

  • maintain our online work
  • create a comprehensive toolkit to help clinicians to deliver culturally sensitive care to Jewish women and families
  • provide more support for our members, through in-person events and remote peer support
  • continue to bring our work to midwifery and maternity conferences and educational institutions
  • keep the momentum behind our work building bridges with fellow maternity advocacy groups, NHS trusts and professional regulators, ensuring that Jewish families are part of the maternity conversation
  • fund research into the needs and experiences of Jewish women, families and birth professionals in the UK
  • offer culturally competent birth preparation eduction to Jewish women and families

We are proud at Shifrah UK to be a truly grassroots initiative, brought together by passionate Jewish birth professionals to advocate for and celebrate our community. Please make a donation today to support us on our journey to take our work to the next level - for every Jewish woman, baby and family. Thank you.
