It's completely free to use parabible. But it's not completely free to keep parabible online. Every month there are hosting costs and every year there are domain registration costs. I am a PhD student right now and I do all the development on my own using time that I could (or "should"!) be spending doing other things that may actually give me some kind of income as a student.
