Support Our Work
Your donation is critical to our efforts to defend the lives of the most vulnerable women and girls. We do this in three ways:
1. Direct Assistance: We provide direct assistance to women who are fighting unjust charges or wrongful convictions at trial, on appeal, and through the clemency process. Our aim is to ensure that women and girls have the resources they need to successfully defend their lives. This includes funds to offset the costs of experienced attorneys, expert witnesses, and skilled investigators. We closely collaborate with counsel and provide research, strategy, and advocacy on behalf of survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner violence.
2. Public Policy Advocacy: We amplify the voices, stories, and expertise of justice-impacted women and girls to expose and challenge gender violence, inequity, and abuse within the criminal legal system. We provide community groups, policy makers, court officials, and the general public with the latest social science research and data to inform policy decisions and ensure socially just outcomes.
3. Mentoring & Support: We provide mentoring and support for justice-impacted women and families. We serve as a bridge to higher education and academic spaces by offering training in public speaking and conference presentation, writing for academic audiences, and conducting interview and focus group-based research projects.
Your donations support our efforts in a variety of ways. We use them to offset legal expenses for our clients. Donations directly support our "inside advisors"--currently incarcerated women who alert us to conditions and matters of concern in area prisons and jails. Donations pay for communication with our incarcerated clients (who are charged elevated rates for phone calls and email). Donations support travel to prison and jail facilities where we host training seminars to assist incarcerated women effectively navigate the legal system. Donations make it possible for us to provide training and mentorship to undergraduate, graduate, and law students in gender-specific, research-informed advocacy. Donations support our mentoring program for justice-impacted women and families, including supporting travel to academic and legal conferences to enable them to share their stories and insights.
