Zines are a labor of love. I don't know anyone who has sought out to get rich of the DIY art of zine making. Rather, zines are an accessible tool for empowering individuals and community building. Since 2012 I have been working to cultivate a zine community in Kansas City. Over the years myself and many amazing other zinesters and zine enthusiasts have facilitated educational and community outreach efforts including the founding of KC Zine Con which is a free annual event open to the public. 100+ zine makers come from all over the midwest and beyond for a day of workshops, zine sales and trades, and networking. Neither/nor Zine Distro was born out of the success and connections made at the first KC Zine Con and has been a sponsor of the event every year since. Recently, I decided to make the Neither/nor a main focus in my life by leaving my job as a barista to free up space in my life to dedicate my attention to my true passion. I currently curate zine selections for 5 brick and mortar stores in Missouri, have a web store, travel to zine fests around the country, and facilitate zine making workshops with school, libraries, and activist organizations. Working for myself is a dream come true, but it is not exactly sustainable source of income for the world we live in. I love providing a platform for folks like me to share their voice and creativity with others through the personal and tactile medium that zines embody. If you value what I am doing with Neither/nor please consider supporting by shopping online and in stores or by making a one time or reoccurring donation.
