Hello, my name is Ann Loraine Marshall. In this video, I share my lived experience of post-separation abuse, legal intimidation and litigation abuses after a relationship breakdown in Spain.



Silenced and Stranded: Fighting for Justice and Building a Future After Post-Separation Abuse.      


In 2009, I entered a relationship with a man whom I thought of as kind, caring, loving and generous.  Tragically, I discovered post-separation that I had been in a situation of emotional and psychological abuse. The end of the relationship in 2020 did not bring relief but instead ushered in a new wave of torment: post-separation abuse. I was left vulnerable and financially precarious, only to face immediate legal action under Spain's "precarious eviction" laws by an ex-partner who had initially promised a fair settlement.


For five years, I have been trapped in a legal battle, a non-married partner with no name on the property title, facing a system that seems ill-equipped to protect individuals in my situation. Despite a signed financial agreement, crucial evidence was dismissed in court. I often felt unheard and undefended by publicly appointed free lawyers in the legal system, against a well-funded opponent. The dismissal of my gender violence complaint, based on a limited presentation of evidence, further compounded the feeling of being failed by the very institutions meant to provide justice.


The discovery in 2023 of potential discrimination within my legal team only deepened the sense of injustice. Now, I face the very real threat of homelessness in Spain, a consequence of both the abuse I endured and the systemic failures that have left me without adequate legal recourse.

Despite these immense challenges, I refuse to be defined by this experience. I am channelling my survival into a powerful vision: the creation of a Country Park Retreat and Motorhome Campsite – a sanctuary for healing and personal growth born from the ashes of my trauma. Furthermore, I am committed to establishing a non-profit in Spain to empower other survivors of domestic abuse, helping them to rebuild their lives and achieve financial independence.


My next book will continue the story of legal failures and the devastating impact of emotional abuse, the critical gaps in legal protections for women, and the journey of transforming adversity into hope. All book proceeds will support the establishment of the non-profit association.

  • Providing the initial funding to establish the non-profit organisation, creating a vital resource for other survivors in Spain.

My immediate funding needs are:

  • €2,400: To cover the initial legal costs of establishing the non-profit organisation in Spain.
  • €600: To cover administration expenses, website hosting and set up of a free safe space for female survivors of domestic abuse.

The dismissal of the criminal defamation allegations has cleared a significant hurdle, allowing me to move forward with renewed determination on the vision for a Mindfulness Retreat that I conceived in 2020. Despite the ongoing uncertainty with the civil court, I am taking proactive steps to secure my future and create a positive impact for others.
