Meet Our Family—and the Fight We Never Saw Coming

My name is Shanda, and this is the story I never thought I’d have to write.

For sixteen years, my husband Jared and I have been building a life stitched together by love, faith, and the kind of joy that fills up a room. We have four beautiful children who keep our home lively—filled with music, games, big personalities, and even bigger dreams. Our days are full. Sacred. And we love them.

Together, we’ve built businesses from the ground up—Jared, as a marriage and family therapist who holds space for people in their darkest hours. And me, running a digital marketing studio while still supporting the salon we opened in Los Angeles. We’ve always been self-employed, carving out a life of flexibility so we could be present: for our kids, for each other, and for the moments that matter most.

And then, in March, everything changed.

Jared was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that had already begun to spread. By the time they found it, tumors had taken hold in his abdomen and liver—pressing against vital organs, threatening everything we’ve built. The oncology team at MD Anderson told us there was no cure. That we might have one year, and that treatment would strip away the life we were trying to save.

We wept. We prayed. We held each other in the quietest hours of the night, asking God what to do next.

And then—we chose hope.

After countless hours of research, soul-searching conversations, and leaning hard into our faith, we found Envita Medical Center. It’s not covered by insurance. But it offers something that conventional medicine couldn’t: a chance for more time, strengthening his body, and real healing.

At Envita, Jared is receiving integrative, precision-based care built around his exact biology. Every drop of treatment—from targeted chemo to immune support and advanced nutraceuticals—is designed for his body, his cancer, his healing. It’s a radically different approach—one that isn’t just fighting disease, but rebuilding strength. Restoring hope.

The cost is staggering. Jared’s first round of treatment was $56,000. This next phase could cost up to $150,000. But already, we’ve seen life return to his eyes. He’s more present. More himself. He’s laughing with the kids again. Dreaming with me again.

And so we fight on.

I’ve stepped back from my work to care for Jared full time and keep the rhythm of home steady for our kids. It’s the hardest season we’ve ever walked—but we’ve never felt so fiercely loved. Friends. Family. Kind strangers. The support we’ve received has carried us through.

And now, humbly, we’re asking for help again.

Your gift doesn’t just fund a treatment plan—it gives us more life to live together. More memories. More moments. More time for our children to be wrapped up in their dad’s arms. It helps us hold fast to the belief that healing isn’t just something we hope for—it’s something we are witnessing unfold, piece by piece.

Thank you—for reading our story, for sharing in it, for standing with us. We believe in miracles. In provision. In a God who heals. We believe this story is far from over.

With all our love, and unwavering hope,

Shanda + Jared

To God be the glory

Where Your Support Goes:

Jared is pursuing updated, integrative alternative therapies designed to prioritize quality of life, preserve strength, and create the best possible outcomes for his condition. Traditional chemotherapy would not offer a cure for Jared’s type of cancer, and would only have served as a palliative measure with harsh side effects.

Instead, they are focusing on therapies that support his immune system, target cancer cells through precision treatments, and allow him to remain present with his family.
Because these treatments fall outside the scope of conventional care, they are not covered by insurance. The estimated cost for Jared’s care ranges between $50,000 and $150,000.

In addition to medical bills, your support will help cover:

Living expenses while Jared and Shanda step away from work
Day-to-day family support and needs
Ongoing wellness therapies to maintain Jared’s strength and quality of life.

Jared played a role in my son Jacob becoming a believer and recently making the decision to be baptized. Jared planned to be at Jacob's baptism but unfortunately, had to go the ER that day. On the way to the hospital, he voiced how sad he was that he couldn't be there to support Jacob. To even have that on his mind during a medical emergency speaks volumes to the type of man he is. I missed getting to meet Jared that day but am so grateful for the impact he has had in Jacob making the most important decision of his life. Wishing continued healing for Jared and love and support for his family.
