Support Aldea PJC
Protect immigrant children, families, and other refugees by providing access to high-quality, pro bono legal representation. Free them all.
Aldea - The People’s Justice Center (Aldea PJC) is a not-for-profit-legal services provider in Pennsylvania that aggressively confronts immigration atrocities and issues affecting detained families, individuals, children and other vulnerable immigrant populations through impact-driven litigation, advocacy, and pro bono legal representation.
We currently provide pro bono representation in immigration matters to three groups: every detained family with minor children in Pennsylvania, detained adults in the York County Prison, and at risk families throughout Pennsylvania and nationwide.
As the legal services provider that took family detention head on in Pennsylvania, we continue to address local and national immigration crises, including litigating against family detention and family separation, advocating for children’s rights in detention, combatting indefinite detention of adults and children, and the assault on the rights of asylum seeking adults, children and families.
From the moment families with children and babies are apprehended at the border and brought to family detention in Berks County, PA, Aldea staff are the first to tell them we are on their side. Aldea provides free legal services to assert these families’ rights to a full asylum hearing, and secure their freedom from immigration detention.
Working on behalf of detained families has taught us that the only way to protect these vulnerable families is that we must do whatever it takes to preserve their rights. Always the underdog, vulnerable children face unbelievable obstacles taking on the government who actively fights to prevent them from getting protection. Our clients and our children know that we will never give up on them, and that we will do whatever possible to set them free and keep them safe.
By the end of 2020, Aldea will have helped over 2000 families detained at the Berks County Residential Facility in Leesport, PA. In 2019 Aldea was responsible for dozens of detained persons receiving asylum in adult detention. We will continue to support the most vulnerable of our community.
In all likelihood, next year will be busier! Where we go from here is up to you! The continued support of community members like you is essential to ALDEA PJC’s ability to provide relief to those in need, improve social welfare, promote human rights, and empower the community.
