Street Labs Cohort 2
Helping Haitian Professionals Enhance and Increase their Creativity and Productivity through a Creators In Residence Program Providing them Access to a Supportive Network, Machinery, and Tools.
HOW WE ARE REACHING THE GOAL
StreetLabs aims to turn ghettos and the underserved entrepreneurial community into a lab where creativity is transformed into fashion brands, woodwork equipment, crafts, food transformation products, and beautiful Haitian art pieces. We’ll accomplish our mission by creating a co-creating lab where underserved communities of entrepreneurs can design, develop and produce goods for the Haitian community in order to reduce the percentage of imported goods.
Our strategy is to empower people at the bottom of the pyramid to innovate by providing them with the tools, resources, and training required to bring quality products to market.
IMPACT WE AIM TO MAKE
Our co-creating space wants to be the playground for new innovators who want to bring physical products and multimedia to market. By using our “reverse pyramid” method, we expect to reduce imported goods yearly and help Haiti gain back its place in the craft/art/fashion market which was evaluated at $391–$416 million before the earthquake according to a report by Global Communities. We are working tirelessly to see local products having a prime location on supermarket shelves by creating powerful recognizable local brands. We believe StreetLab will spark creativity in the community and inspire Haitians to buy local. We dream of a Haiti where local products can clearly compete with international products. StreetLab will create a new generation of fashion designers, woodworkers, food product makers, and other creative professionals making products for quality, beauty and not for charity. Street Labs turns local products into buyers' first choice.
